What should be the # 1 goal of any leader in a large organisation?

To grow business? To earn market share? To set up processes? To design a great culture?

Nope.

I think the # 1 priority of a leader in a large organisation is to make himself / herself dispensable.

Sounds counter-intuitive? Let me explain.

— You should create leaders and leaders-of-leaders. — They should have so much ability / trust / empowerment / incentive that they can run the show on their own. — Nothing should fall apart if you aren’t around for days or even months. — The culture that you exemplify should also live beyond you.

Once you create a team of A+ leaders, business outcomes will happen.

There’s a false sense of accomplishment and control when every job / every decision needs you, and you are the ‘go-to’ person for everything. That’s the mark of a bad leader who can’t coach / delegate / inspire.

Work very hard towards making yourself dispensable.
